A small case for boring infrastructure, and a slightly larger one for the people who maintain it

Boring is the highest form of compliment you can pay a system. It means it disappeared into the background where it belongs. It also means someone, somewhere, is being paid to make sure it stays that way — and we’re collectively very bad at noticing them.

Why I keep choosing boring tools, why I sometimes regret it, and why I think the most undervalued role in software right now is “the person who keeps the lights on”.
